Who is OutdoorEquipmentSupplier? My name is Brian MacMillin, and I am 20 years old and currently attending the University of Rochester at Rochester, New York, where I am hopeful (soon to declare! -11/3) to major in Mechanical Engineering. Taking 19 credits worth of college courses up at Rochester, including (currently) Calc 4 (Linear Algebra w\ Dif Eq), Intro to Solid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, German 2 and more takes quite a bit of time, and thus most of my time is spent trying to keep my GPA up where I would like it to be. I also spend much of my time practicing and playing saxophone and piano, and hope to have a music performance minor in addition to my engineering major. Being so involved in school in no way means that I will be stopping production of tarps, stoves or accessories! I began OES making alcohol stoves for eBay, but soon found myself interested in using silnylon to construct sturdy and better made silnylon tarps than were currently available at the time. It all began with some black 1.9oz poly coated fabric from which the first hexagonal prototype hammock fly was constructed, and I then used for about 3 weeks worth of trips. I then discovered silnylon (after baking at night under a heavy, black tarp), and I was amazed at how much lighter and more flexible it was in terms of tarp setups! The MacCat line of tarps was developed soon after, and I have been improving my products ever since! I started OutdoorEquipmentSupplier.com in October of 2004, and have developed it into what it is today. As of January 1, 2008, I am now the owner and president of OutdoorEquipmentSupplier LLC, still committed to bringing you the best ultralight gear available on the market. I am constantly looking for new fabrics, techniques and approaches to manufacture the best and lightest gear available. I am an Eagle Scout (class of '05) with a Bronze Palm. I have been an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, and Troop Guide. Scouts helped to solidify my love of hiking and backpacking (and also going lightweight!), and has been a great leadership experience for me. Keeping my GPA up, practicing for auditions, and staying active in scouts makes keeping OES updated and getting orders out on time has been a cross between a nightmare and an experience that I would repeat over and over again. I very much enjoy what I do, and helping people to get what they want in a tarp or other piece of gear is a challenge that I welcome. I try and check my email several times a day, so send me one and see if I can help you get what you need in a tarp! ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Myself on top of Avery Peak (4088') in the Bigelow Range in Maine, overlooking the Saddleback range to the South. Avery is the last peak over 4000' on the AT before Katahdin! |
